Archive at Lunchtime
Presented by the Irish Film Institute and TradFest
Commissioned by French broadcaster ORTF 3 and directed by Robert Manthoulis as part of a series on world music, ‘The Irish or The Memory of a People’, provides a record of Irish traditional music at the height of its popularity in Ireland and worldwide. Providing a broad sweep of the musical landscape, the film draws in vibrant performances from Willy Clancy, Mrs O’Tuama, Christy Moore and Planxty, The Dubliners, Ceoltoiri Laighean and Tony MacMahon. It also includes an interview with recently-widowed Ruth Ó Riada and a rare interview with Sean Ó Riada himself. Performances take place in The Piper’s Club, Dublin, O’Connor’s Pub in Doolin and Belfield Campus, Dublin.
