Montreal-born Grenadian-Canadian artist Kaia Kater, praised by NPR, The Guardian, and Rolling Stone, blends jazz-inspired vocals and skilled songwriting, drawing from Quebec, the Caribbean, and Appalachia. Her diverse background, family ties to Canadian folk music, and exposure to Appalachian tunes in West Virginia shape her unique sound. Releasing her debut EP “Old Soul” in 2013, she has since launched three albums, including the JUNO-nominated “Grenades” (2018), exploring Caribbean roots and her father’s refugee experience. Kaia, a Canadian Screen Award winner, participated in the Slaight Music Residency, released a single in 2020, and contributed to “The Porter” (BET+ 2022). Her upcoming 2024 album was co-produced with Joe Grass in Montreal.
