The experience and reflections of Francis Ledwidge, killed in the 3rd battle of Ypres 1917, becomes the inspiration for a cycle of songs arranged with wind instruments and voice, delivered by award winning sean-nós composer, Lorcán Mac Mathúna, and former riverdance uilleann piper, Eamonn Galldubh. Francis Ledwidge looked to a broad field within Irish traditions for inspiration. In the cramped and muddy trenches of the Western Front Ledwidge wrote and remembered. He wrote of the woods and fields of Meath, the twisting Boyne, and memories and legend, and a Rising in Dublin. Lorcán Mac Mathúna and Eamonn Galldubh reflect upon these connections of place and memory and the intrusion of grim reality. Expect a moving and thoughtful evening where poetry meets music.
